Congress Presenters & Speakers Offer Inspiration and Innovation

 

 

The 113th annual session of the National Baptist Congress annual session will be hosted at the Sheraton Charlotte Hotel, located at 555 South McDowell Street, Charlotte, NC. The 2019 session theme is “Fellowship with Christ” (1 Corinthians 1:4–9). “We are anticipating an enthusiastic gathering, which will consist of pastors and faith leaders, community activists, politicians, students, and laypersons of all ages,” said Ms. LaDonna Boyd, president/CEO of the R.H. Boyd Publishing Corporation and the National Baptist Congress.

The Congress is the educational component of R.H. Boyd Publishing Corporation, where faith leaders and laypersons gather to receive leadership training and tools for furthering their gifts, talents and efforts for the Kingdom. The Congress continues to provide Christian education and fellowship to believers of all ages by offering courses and seminars for adults, children, and youth in various disciplines, including hermeneutics for preaching, social media for churches, evangelism, marriage, Vacation Bible School, diaconate ministry, and more.

Teens and children have the opportunity to participate in various ministries and competitions, including dance teams, oratorical contests, and drill teams, as well as a comedy night, youth explosion, and service projects.

This year’s lineup of featured speakers and entertainment include the 2019 host pastor, Dr. Robert C. Scott, senior pastor of Charlotte’s St. Paul Baptist Church, who will address the Congress on Wednesday, June 12, along with Ms. LaDonna Boyd, who will deliver the annual State of the Congress address.

The Faith Leaders’ Luncheon features speaker Pastor Bryan Carter, senior pastor of Concord Church in Dallas, Texas, with Pastor Denny Davis of St. John Baptist Church in Grand Prairie, Texas serving as moderator.

Dr. Kevin W. Cosby, pastor of St. Stephen Church in Louisville, Ky., and president of Simmons College of Kentucky, will bring the Thursday morning message. St. Stephen is the largest African-American congregation in Kentucky.

This year’s Praise and Laughs features an inspirational gospel concert with world renowned artist Erica Campbell of Mary Mary and is hosted by church lady Ms. Shirlean (aka Christianee Porter of The Christi Show). Ambassador Suzan “Sujay” Johnson Cook headlines this year’s Women of Wisdom Luncheon, with a special performance by Pastor Shirley Caesar, and others.

The Late Night speakers for the 113th session offer inspiring new voices to give a fresh word from God. Tuesday night’s speaker is the Reverend Dr. Peter Wherry, senior pastor, of Mayfield Memorial Baptist Church, located in Charlotte. On Wednesday night, Reverend Dr. Kimberly Moore senior pastor of Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church in Gastonia, NC is the guest preacher. Bishop Claude Alexander, senior pastor of The Park Church in Charlotte, is the Thursday night preacher.

Family Night on Thursday will include a premiere of Overcomer, a Christian-themed movie from the producers of The War Room. Both movies star Priscilla Shirer, an author, motivational speaker, actress, Christian evangelist and daughter of Dallas mega-church pastor Tony Evans.

In addition to the courses offered, a series of seminars will be offered, including “Dangerously in Love: How to Reach, Rescue and Restore Victims of Abuse,” a special session on the journey to wholeness after sexual abuse, facilitated by Ashes of Tamar author Tonya Neal. Additionally, Dr. Jacquie Hood Martin will lead a seminar on envisioning a new church with emerging and nontraditional leadership roles.
