In 1981, Dr. T. B. Boyd III, then president/CEO of R.H. Boyd had a vision to support college students and non-profit organizations in achieving their goals and aspirations. He established the R.H. Boyd Family Endowment Fund to provide scholarships and grants that promote knowledge and participation in African-American heritage and culture.
The fund serves as a vehicle through which the R.H. Boyd Company puts resources back into the community in a positive and helpful way while encouraging churches, organizations, and students to attain educational goals and standards for the betterment of the total community.
Since its inception, the endowment has awarded more than $500,000, helping students, churches, and non-profit organizations an opportunity to reach their goals. In doing so, the endowment has helped many recipients defray the cost of student loan debt and has allocated resources to various churches and nonprofit organizations, empowering them to improve their communities and fund projects and programs.
During the 2022–2023 fiscal year, the endowment allocated $45,000 in academic scholarships to students and in-kind contributions to churches and organizations. In keeping with our mission, we strive to promote appreciation of African-American culture and heritage, to encourage innovation in advanced learning and professional development, and to increase the number of minority graduate degree holders in select fields of study.
The goals of the endowment are to prepare individuals for the professional world and empower them to serve and improve communities by funding projects and programs.
The R.H. Boyd Family Endowment Fund Committee earnestly works to continue building the endowment for future generations. We are grateful to our supporters for helping us achieve our end-ofyear goal to raise $25,000; however, we can’t stop there. We need ongoing financial support to sustain these worthwhile causes. In addition to our end-ofyear giving campaign, there are other ways to support the endowment, including the Big Payback 24-hour giving campaign, sponsored annually in May by the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.
The annual R.H. Boyd’s Legacy Ball, to be held in June 2023 at the Four Seasons Hotel Nashville, recognizes community advocates and supporters and benefits the endowment.
